Alwarthirunagari Perumal Temple

Alwarthirunagari Perumal Temple is one of the Nava Tirupathi temples dedicated to Vishnu and also a Divya Desam. It is also a Navagraha with Guru (Jupiter) as its deity. This temple has a Swayambhu Murti (Self Appeared) of Lord Vishnu in a standing posture with His feet buried in the ground. Mata Lakshmi and Bhoodevi are also enshrined here.

Birthplace of Nammalvar

Alwarthirunagari is the birthplace of Nammalvar, one of the twelve Tamil Alvars. These Poet-saints composed the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, a collection of more than 4000 verses of Vaishnavism.
