BELUR MATH – Paramhans Ramakrishna’s Spiritual Legacy
Belur Math is the headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Vivekananda is the founder of both the mutt.
Belur Math, on the banks of the Hooghly river, is spread over 40 verdant acres. A day spent in these peaceful and serene surroundings will certainly be enjoyable. It will leave you with good memories.
Latest Temple updates of Belur Math during Durga Puja
On the campus are various temples like:
- Ramakrishna Temple
- Old Ramakrishna Temple
- Swami Brahmananda Temple
- Maa Sarada Devi Temple
- Swami Vivekananda Temple
Other places to see here are the old Math, Swami Vivekananda’s mango tree, Ramakrishna museum, and Swami Vivekananda’s living room.
Timings:
As per the latest updates, Belur Math will be opening from 18th Aug 21 which was closed in April. Each visitor has to follow strict restrictions in order to visit the temple. Visiting time will be from 8 AM to 11 AM and from 4 PM to 5.45 PM. Visitors have to follow the fixed route to visit the main temple, Brahmananda Mandir, Sarada Mandir, and Vivekanand Mandir.
Mandatory to follow the below rules:
1> Carry proof of vaccination
2> If you don’t have proof of vaccination, you have to carry an RT-PCR negative report of the test done within 72 hours.
3> Carry government-issued ID cards like Aadhar, PAN, or Voter cards.
There will be a check on the main gate to ensure the safety of all.
Main Gate:
- April to September 06:00 – 12:00 & 16:00 – 21:00
- October to March 06:30 – 12:00 *& 15:30 – 20:30
Museum:
- April to September 08:30 – 11:30 & 16:00 – 18:00
- October to March 08:30 – 11:30 & 15:30 – 17:30
- Closed on Mondays
Temples:
- Ramakrishna temple is closed from 11:00 to 11:40 am.
- All other temples are closed at 11:30 am.
- Sandhya Aarti at Ramakrishna Temple: 5:30 PM
How to Reach Belur Math:
- Belur Math has located 6 km from Howrah in Kolkata (W.Bengal)
- By car or taxi is the most convenient option.
Other options are:
- Belur Math Bus Route: From Howrah: Bus numbers: 51, 54 and 56
- A bus is a good option as they drop you at Belur Math gate
By Train:
- Frequent EMU trains from Howrah from early morning to late night will get to Belur Math.
- From Howrah to Belur Math (Locals)
- 07:40 – 08:55 – 10:10 – 16:05 – 18:30
By Ferry:
- Frequent ferries from Fairlie place to Kutighat
Besides spiritual and religious activities, Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math are engaged in social welfare and charitable services in a big way.
They run a large number of educational institutes, hospitals, and clinics all over the country. Other than that, the math is engaged in rural development, farming, animal husbandry, and village upliftment.
Belur math is at the forefront when it comes to providing relief and rehabilitation during natural and man-made disasters like floods, earthquakes, etc.
