Dhabaleshwar Temple Cuttack History
The temple name ‘Dhabaleswar‘ comes from the Sanskrit words “Dhabala”, which means White and “Eswar” which means Lord. It is believed that the temple was built in the 10th or 11th century, during the Somavamsi dynasty. Dhabaleshwar temple is located at a distance of 27km from the city of Cuttack in Odisha.
As a legend says, once a thief stole a black calf and hid in this temple. People are looking for the calf and the thief outside the temple. So, the thief prayed to God to save him. Finally, Lord Shiva took on the form of a sanyasi and came outside.
People told him that there was a thief with a black calf hiding in the temple’s sanctorium. So the Sanyasi went in and came with a white calf. Seeing that, the thief realised that Lord Shiva himself came to save him and turned the black calf into a white one.
The thief apologised to the people of the village and devoted his life to this temple. After this miracle, the temple is known as Dhabaleshwar Temple and Shiva is known as Dhabaleshwara.
This beauty was structured by Bir Kishore, which everyone can see and explore now. Currently, the BDA (Bhubaneshwar Development Authority) maintains this temple. By taking care of and keeping in mind ancient things over there, they have made several changes to the tourist department.
