In the temple town of Gokarna in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka is the Mahabaleshwar Temple, also known as Gokarna Temple. This temple is built in the classical Dravidian architectural style. It is a site of religious endeavors which attracts religious pilgrims from all over India. The temple faces the Gokarna beach on the Arabian sea in which Hindu pilgrims cleanse before visiting the temple for worship. The temple is built of Granite stone which ensures its perseverance to date. The Atmalinga is enshrined in the temple on a square Saligrama Peetha. The most important characteristic of this temple is that it has a small hole at its center from where the devotees can see the top of the Atmalinga.

Visitors wearing jeans, Bermudas, and shorts can not enter the premises of the temple. Visitors have to enter only wearing a dhoti, salwar and women can enter wearing a saree.
