Guru Purnima has been celebrated in India with great respect. Guru simply refers to someone who showers knowledge to its “sishya” (student) and takes him towards a spiritual and correct path in his life.
It is celebrated as a mark of respect towards teachers.
On this day students recite the Guru Shloka while remembering their teachers:
“गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥“
“|| Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Saakshaat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah ||”
Guru is Brahma (Lord of Creation), Guru is Vishnu(Lord Vishnu -The Organizer), Guru is Maheshwara(Lord Shiva), Guru is Saakshaat and Parabrahma (The Supreme Almighty), Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah (we bow to that guru)
