Guru Purnima is celebrated on 24th July 2021, Saturday.
Guru Purnima is celebrated on the fourth month of the Hindi calendar “Ashadh” on the full moon also known as Vyas Purnima. As Maharishi Ved Vyas was born on this day and gave the knowledge of all the four Vedas and wrote the Hindu epic “Mahabharata”.
Significance of Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima has been celebrated in India with great respect. Guru simply refers to someone who showers knowledge to its “sishya” (student) and takes him towards a spiritual and correct path in his life.
It is celebrated as a mark of respect towards teachers.
Guru Shloka
On this day students recite the Guru Shloka while remembering their teachers:
“गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥“
“|| Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Saakshaat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah ||”
Meaning
Guru is Brahma (Lord of Creation), Guru is Vishnu(Lord Vishnu -The Organizer), Guru is Maheshwara(Lord Shiva), Guru is Saakshaat and Parabrahma (The Supreme Almighty), Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah (we bow to that guru)
