Kumbh Mela 2021 | Significance of Shahi Snan

Kumbh Mela 2021

Kumbh Mela 2021 Ganga Snan is the most important ritual of the Kumbh Mela. Besides Ganga Snan, even more, significant are the Shahi Snans (Raj Yog Snan). Devotees come from all over India and the world just for this.

Why are the Shahi Snans important and what benefit comes from them?

Latitude of Rivers

The dates of Shahi Snans are decided on the basis of planetary positions. These are the most auspicious dates and times for bathing. The location of Kumbh Melas is always held in specific places on the banks of sacred rivers. The latitude of the rivers in these places is a significant factor when combined with planetary conjunctions.

Research by the Great Rishis of Sanatan Dharma

The ultimate goal of a human is liberation from the cycle of life and birth. This is what the Rishis of Sanatan Dharma understood. They worked to find out how it could be done. Over thousands of years of meditation and studying of natural forces, they came to certain indisputable conclusions. They then developed tools and methods to help mankind achieve that ultimate goal.

The relevance of the Water Element

The human body is made of five elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Sky. The composition of the human body is 72%  water, 12% earth, 4% fire, 6% air, and 6% sky. Amazingly, 72% of the planet Earth consists of water. Can that be a mere coincidence?

The benefit of Shahi Snan and Ganga Snan 2021

The great Rishis in the days of yore concluded that bathing in the sacred Ganga River on the days of Shahi Snan gives untold benefits. Maa Ganga symbolizes purity in the true sense. Not only does it purify the body, but also the individual soul. A dip in the Ganga on the Shahi Snan dates liberates the soul from the cycle of life and death. It thus provides the ultimate tool for the ultimate benefit. There is nothing more to be achieved beyond that.

Sadhus and  Akhadas get priority

Sadhus of various sects belonging to different Akhadas are the first to be allowed to bathe on the days of Shahi Sans. This is the tradition since time immemorial and continues to this day. Akhada Sadhus go to the bathing ghats in spectacular processions, often on elephants, camels, chariots, and on foot. After they finish their rites, members of the public are allowed to go in an orderly manner.
