About Ramatheertham temple
New Murtis installed at Ramatheertham Temple in Nellimarla. Ramatheertham is a village about 12 km from Vizianagaram and 80 km from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Ramatheertham is well known for its ancient temple dedicated to Sri Rama, Sita Mata, and Lakshmanji. This place is not only a pilgrimage but is also an ancient historical site with many ruins of Jain and Buddhist structures and caves. The structures date back to the 3rd century BCE.
Vandalism by anti-social elements shocked the country
One month ago (December 29, 2020) the Kodanda Swamy temple was vandalized and the Murti of Sri Ram damaged. Orders for New idols were placed with Tirupati Devasthanam. The new Murtis have been received and temporarily enshrined in Balalayam on Neelachalam hill. The Murtis will remain here till the main temple is fully renovated.
Prayaschit Homan done and New Murtis enshrined
After this shocking act, priests removed the damaged Murtis from the temple and performed Prayaschit Homan. The new Murtis were enshrined as per Agama Shastras. Puja and other rituals were done from three days before the Murtis were enshrined. Regular Puja will be done at Balalayam till the main temple is renovated and the Murtis shifted there. This is estimated to be for a period of one year.
