The Valley of Flowers

The Valley of Flowers lies in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is situated at a height of 3,658 meters above sea level in the upper region of Bhyundar Ganga, Joshimath. The Valley of Flowers is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its wild Natural blooms surrounded by white peaks.

It was discovered by Mountaineer Frank S Smith, Eric Shipton and R.L. Holdsworth, all British mountaineers who lost their way while returning from Mt.Kamet and reached upon the valley, which was full of flowers in 1931 A.D.

This Natural site of Flowers is famous for its tropical varieties of medicinal herbs, it is also considered a truthful belief that Hanuman brought Sanjivani to laid up Lakshmana from the valley of flowers, Uttarakhand. As it’s a perfect place to relax around the Himalayan waterfall. Valley of Flowers is endowed with a range of flowers and the delightful in its beauty. It also has rare animal species like Asiatic black deer, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, brown bear, and blue sheep.

Valley of Flowers National Park Entry Fee

The entry fee for Indian nationals and foreigners is separate. The entry fee for Indians is 150 Rs and 600 for Foreign Tourists and it is valid for 3 days the extra fee after the entry expires the cost for Indians is 50 rs and for foreigners is 250. For carrying cameras inside the valley Indians need to pay 500 whereas foreigners require 1500 for a day. Valley of flowers is also declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Opening and Closing Dates of Valley of Flowers 2023

The Valley of flowers will open on 1st June 2023 and will close on 4th October 2023. The valley of flowers opens at 7:00 AM and the last entry is allowed till 2:00 PM. Closing time of valley of flowers is 5:00 PM. So it is recommended to start your journey in the morning by 7:00 AM. The return trek should start by 1:30 PM so you can reach back till 5 PM.

Best Time To Visit Valley of Flowers

The valley of flowers National Park opens from June to October every year. The best time to visit is from July till September months because the valley is full of flowers at this time. There will be a maximum number of flowers with different varieties and quantities blooming at this time.

In the month of September, there will be flowers also seen at Hemkund Sahib. But September is the last month to visit before it is closed till next year. In this month the snowfall starts and slowly the seeds and flowers are buried under the snow.

How to Reach Valley of Flowers National Park

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the only operational airport flying daily commercial flights, connecting the Garhwal region by Air. This Airport is nearest to the Valley of Flowers National Park but the road is only connected up to Govind Ghat from where you have to do trekking of 16 Km to reach. It is situated at a distance of 292 Km from Jolly Grant Airport and is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Govind Ghat is well connected to reachable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are also available from the airport to Govindghat.

By Road

Valley of Flowers is connected to Pulna Village which is 4 Km from Govind Ghat from there it takes 13 Km of trekking to reach. Govind Ghat is well connected by roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Buses and Taxis to Govind Ghat are easily available from Uttarakhand states like Rishikesh, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Ukhimath, Srinagar, and Chamoli. As Govind Ghat is located on National Highway No.58 makes it easy to reach.

By Train

Rishikesh is the nearest Railway station to reach Valley of Flowers and roads are also well connected up to Govind Ghat at a distance of 273 km. From Govind Ghat it takes around 16 Km to reach Valley of Flowers. Taxis and buses are available from many other destinations to reach Govind Ghat.

Valley of Flowers Trekking Tips

  •  It is important for trekkers to carry a copy of their photo ID Proofs for entry at forest check posts on the trek.
  • Since it’s a Trek you should few important things which are to be helpful during Trekking like woollen clothes, a raincoat, a medical kit, a Torch and many other things according to your needs.
  • Look after your health and take 5 to 10 minutes of break every hour.
  • You should wear good quality Shoes.
  • Hydrate Yourself Frequently When Walking.
  • Avoid loud music while trekking. It could be uncomfortable for others.
  • Drink boiled water during your trekking to avoid water infections.
  • Use Walking Poles to reduce stress on legs.
