History
The sage Yada, son of Rishi Shrunga performed a hard penance to God Narasimha. Pleased with this, Lord appeared in 5 different avatars. These are Jwala Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha, Gandaberunda Narasimha and Lakshmi Narasimha.
Rishi requested him to live on this hill and bless the tribal people. Later these gods turned into finely sculpted forms and promised to be there till the end of Kaliyuga. So, this place is worshipped as Panch Narasimha Kshetram.
Architecture
Old Temple
The temple was originally 2 acres but after renovation, it occupies 14 acres of land. There is a 12 feet high and 30 feet long cave, in which the temple is situated. Each Narasimha deity is in a different form. A 3 ft by 3 ft dimensioned Golden Sudarshana Chakra of Lord Vishnu is at the top of the sanctum. According to legends, many years ago the chakra moved in the direction of devotees coming.
Here Jwala Narasimha is in the shape of a serpent. Yogananda Narasimha is sitting pose where he is meditating in a yoga pose. The silver idol of Lakshmi-Narasimha is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions.
Anjeneya (Hanuman) temple is there with the main temple. The long side gap in the rock just below Hanumanji is believed to be the location where Gandabheranda Narasimha appeared. Under a huge slating rock, there is a sanctum sanctorum which covers half the deity.
New Temple
Chinna Jeeyar Swamy built a new temple near the old shrine and named it, Yadadri having Vaishnava tradition. Here the arch at the temple entrance shows 5 elements of the universe (Fire, Earth, Water, Sky, Air).
Followed by the Thenkalai tradition of Vaishnava Agama Shastras, the temple was built. With the knowledge of ancient designs and Agama shastras lead architect P Madhusudhan and famous Film set Designer Anand Sai were selected.
- The temple is made entirely of stone. Three types of stones are used.
- Krishna Shila is used for presiding deities in the sanctum sanctorum.
- Stree Shila for idols of Goddesses.
- Napusaka Sila for flooring and walls.
- Black granite stone is also used similar to the architecture of the Kakatiya Dynasty in Telangana.
- The carving of the pillars is from a single stone.
- The total price of the Yadadri project is around $2.5 billion.
- CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, his Cabinet, colleagues and business people donated the 125 kg of gold that covers the temple’s Vimana Gopuram (The top structure of the temple).
The unique thing about the temple is its design as no bricks or cement are used. The temple has been constructed with black granite to make it resistant to wear and tear for the next century.
