Raghavendra Swamy Temple, Mantralayam

Significance of Raghavendra Temple Mantralayam

Mantralayam Temple is dedicated to Guru Raghavendra Swamy, who lived during the 16th century. Swamy is a follower of Lord Vishnu and the saint’s teachings are also based on Vaishnava culture, Dwait philosophy and the preaching of Madhvacharya.

Five-faced Hanuman gave darshan to the Swamy, getting impressed by his 12-year meditation and that place is now known as Panchamukhi.

Before becoming a saint, Sri Raghavendra was a family man with a wife and a son. On the day of his transformation, his wife wished to see him for the last time. So his wife ran behind him, wishing to see him one last time.

She fell into an abandoned well and died but as her wish was not fulfilled, she became a ghost and came to visit the mutt. But the saint felt the presence and sparkle of the holy water on her and relieved her from the cycle of birth and death.
