The “Thai Pongal” festival has begun on Thursday at Sri Sarangapani Temple, Kumbakonam with the hoisting of the holy flag. Sri Sarangapani Temple is one of the famous temples in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams.
No wooden car festival on Pongal 2022
Like the last year, this year too the great “Thaipongal Ther” will not take place during the 10-days festival.

Thai Pongal Ther is a grand event at Sri Sarangapani Temple in Kumbakonam. Devotees visit Tamil Nadu to attend this event during the Pongal festival. But due to the coronavirus pandemic situation, the temple has decided to celebrate the festival within the temple premises. Like the last year, a decorated idol of Sri Sarangapani will be placed on the silver chariot & pulled along prakarams in the temple precincts.
Every year “ThaiPongal” festival is celebrated at Sri Sarangapani Temple, Kumbakonam. On the last day of Pongal, a grand event of pulling a wooden car across the four Mada Streets of Sri Sarangapani temple is held.
