1. Shri Panch Dashnaam Juna Akhara
Shri Panch Dashnaam Juna Akhara is the oldest and most revered of the Akhara dating back to ancient times. Akhara’s presiding deity shifted to Lord Dattatreya, who is considered a Rudra avatar, or a form of Shiva that embodies the aspects of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The Juna Akhara was originally known as Bhairav Akhara. Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva, symbolizes the protective and destructive aspects of Shiva.
The Akhara is composed of 5 lakh Naga Sadhus and Mahamandaleshwar Sanyasis, making it the largest among the seven Shaiva Sanyasi Akhara. The majority of the Sandhus are Naga Sadhus, who live without clothing and practise severe penances. These Sadhus are also trained in weaponry and martial arts, maintaining the tradition of physical strength alongside spiritual powers.
The governance of the Akhara is handled by a committee formed of senior members from 52 families of sadhus within the Akhara. This committee is responsible for electing the president of Akhara, a position that once elected is held for a life. These elections are conducted during the time of Kumbh Mela, where Akhara play a central role.
2. Shri Panchayati Akhara Niranjani
Shri Panchayati Akhara Niranjani has a strong base in Allahabad and its headquarters is located in Daraganj, Prayagraj. It is one of the most powerful and respected among the 13 Akhara. It welcomes people from all backgrounds, known for its inclusive nature.
The history of Shri Panchayati Akhara Niranjani dates back over a thousand years at a place called Mandvi in Gujrat. Among 70% of the saints and sages in Niranjani Akhara have received higher education, combining spiritual practice with modern knowledge. This unique combination allows the monks to address modern challenges while staying true to their spiritual values.
3. Shri Panch Atal Akhara
Shri Panch Atal Akhara has a history which is one of the seven Akhara under the Dashnami Sanyas tradition. Atal Akhara holds a special place in the spiritual and cultural landscape of India. It promotes the Sanatan Vedic Dharma which makes it a significant institution within the Hindu faith. It’s a monastic order aimed at preserving the teaching of the Vedas and spreading the principles of Advaita Vedanta, that emphasizes the unity of the soul and the supreme being.
To ensure its revival Adi Shankaracharya also established four Mathas in the four corners – Sringeri in the South, Dwarka in the West, Puri in the East and Jyotirmath in the North. These Mathas served as spiritual centres for the dissemination of Vedic knowledge.
4. Shri Panchayti Mahanirvani Akhara

11. Shri Panchayati Akhara Bada Udasin
Shri Panchayati Akhara Bada Udasin is a key institution dedicated to the propagation of Sanatan Dharma. It is founded by Nirvana Baba Pritam Das Maharaj to operate educational and medical facilities across India. The term “Udasin” means “one who is indifferent to worldly attachments” which promotes Indian culture and connects sages and saints to public service and spiritual education.
12. Shri Panchayati Akhara Naya Udasin
The Udasin Akhara also known as the Panchayati Naya Akhara, emerged from internal differences among the Udaasin Sadhus. It leads to the creation of a new organizational entity. Mahatma Surdas Ji is the founder of this Akhara, who played a key role in its establishment. Shri Panchayati Akhara Naya Udasin serves as a centre for spiritual learning, encouraging its members to follow the path of devotion, detachment and service to humanity.
The main centre of Naya Udasin is located in Kankhal, Haridwar. This location serves as the primary hub for the Akhara’s activities and functions.
13. Shri Nirmal Panchaiti Akhara
