History of Shri Gnana Saraswati Temple Basara
After the battle of Kurukshetra, the sage Ved Vyas went on a journey, searching for peace. On his journey, he reached the Kumaranchala hills on the river banks of the Godavari River.
He lived there, thus this place is known as Vasara; later, it turned into BASARA as it was influenced by the Maharashtrian people who lived there.
Sage Vyas meditated and worshipped the goddess who appeared before him and granted him their presence of divinity. The Devi ordered the sage to place three handfuls of sand at three different places every day.
Surprisingly, these dunes transformed into the idols of divinity, i.e., Saraswathi, Laxmi and Kali. Thus, it is known as Basara Temple.
It is said that the king of Nandedu, King Bijalu, built this temple in the sixth century.
A special ceremony is held here, named Aksharaabhyasam. Children start their education by doing this Aksharabhyasam with the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi.
Here are the details of Aksharabhyasam.
Aksharabhyasam Timings: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM
