Rashtrapati Niketan: Eco-Cultural Destination, Dehradun

Rashtrapati Niketan, a symbol of India’s presidential legacy and a lighthouse of democratic openness, is tucked away in the beautiful, tranquil surroundings of Dehradun. This ancient 21-acre estate was opened to the public for the first time in its 186-year history, allowing guests to take in a singular fusion of natural beauty, culture, and history.

The estate’s beautifully designed gardens, which include the Lily Pond, Rockery Pond, Rose Garden, and Pergola, provide peaceful areas for rest and introspection while demonstrating the estate’s tasteful fusion of tradition and natural beauty. This is a celebration of India’s democratic ethos and common history, not just a retreat.

A Glimpse into History

The President’s Bodyguards trained PBG horses in the Rashtrapati Niketan, formerly known as Rashtrapati Ashiana. This historic structure now provides a glimpse into its rich history and displays a carefully chosen collection of artwork. The President’s Bodyguard’s stables and horses will be open for anyone to see.

With its dense canopy of native trees, meandering pathways, wooden bridges, lofty machans for birding, and peaceful areas for meditation and introspection, the Tapovan provides a tranquil getaway into nature. Through guided pathways, seasonal flowers, and eco-interpretive features, it was created with the intention of fostering a connection between people and the natural environment.

What to explore at Rashtrapati Niketan, Dehradun?

In addition to Rashtrapati Niketan, tourists may enjoy Rajpur Road’s 19-acre dense woodland trail, Rashtrapati Tapovan. This effort comes after Rashtrapati Bhavan, Rashtrapati Nilayam, and Rashtrapati Niwas in Hyderabad opened to the public with great success and are currently open six days a week. A new ceremonial structure and more seating have been added to Rashtrapati Bhavan’s changing of guard ceremony since February.
