A Complete Guide to Prayagraj’s Three Shakti Peethas

Prayagraj is known for the meeting of the Ganga, Yamuna and the hidden Saraswati rivers, as well as being an important centre of Shakti worship. It is believed that the goddess’s fingers fell at Akshayavat, Mirapura and Alopur.

In some beliefs, these three places are also debated to be kept as Shaktipeeth, but the final decision is not made about it. We can add them into 108 Shaktipeeths but not here.

There is only one Shaktipeeth in Prayagraj. Among these, the temple of Maa Lalita holds special value for Shakti devotees, as it is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. This holy site is located about 5 kilometres from the Sangam area.

Three temples are believed as Shaktipeeths and all three temples are dedicated to “Goddess Lalita”. The names of those Three Shaktipeeths in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh are Alopi Devi, Kalyani Devi and Lalita Devi.

It is believed that in Prayagraj, the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati touch the feet of Maa Lalita as they flow once. This is why visiting this respected Shakti Peetha holds great importance after bathing at the Sangam.
