Amarnath Ji Yatra Experience

As you leave Jammu, the beautiful valleys of Kashmir begin. The chants of “Bam Bam Bhole” echo all around. Along the way, you will see many langars where volunteers serve free and hygienic food with devotion.

From Anantnag, the route splits:

  • Left side goes towards Baltal via Srinagar

Routes to Amarnath Cave Yatra

Amarnath Yatra can be undertaken through two main routes: the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route.

Pahalgam Route (Easy and Scenic)

This route is longer but peaceful. You walk through green valleys, rivers, and villages.

Shri Amarnath Day-wise Journey

Day 1: Jammu to Pahalgam (Base Camp)

Start your journey from Jammu and travel by road to Pahalgam. On the way, you will see beautiful valleys and hear devotional chants.

Day 2: Chandanwari to Sheshnag

From the base camp travel about 16 km by vehicle to Chandanwari where the trek begins.

After trekking around 3 km uphill, you reach Pissu Top. Take rest and then continue towards Sheshnag Lake. Stay overnight in tents.

Day 3: Sheshnag to Panchtarni

The trek continues towards Mahagunas Top the highest point of the journey, covered in snow and very beautiful.

After that, the path goes downhill, leading to Panchtarni where five streams meet. Stay here overnight and take rest.

Day 4: Panchtarni to Amarnath Cave

This is the most special part of the journey.

At Sangam Top the Baltal route joins. Walking through snow-covered paths, you finally reach near the holy cave.

Pilgrims often take a dip in the Amar Ganga before darshan. Then, standing in line, you slowly move towards Baba Amarnath. The moment is very emotional and peaceful.
You can either stay there or start your return journey the same day.

June, July, and August are the best months. Snow melts, and the ice Shivling forms clearly. Morning darshan is usually better.

  • From Baltal, take taxi or bus via Sonamarg to Srinagar
  • From Pahalgam route, return back to Jammu
