The Maha Kumbh Mela,2025 will be organized from January 13, 2025, to February 26, 2025. The picture of the Kumbh Mela without 13 Akharas of the Hindu Religion is impossible. All the Akharas started their march towards Prayagraj, Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
13 Akharas are into three parts.
1.Shaiv Sampraday Akharas
2. Bairagi Vaishnav Sampraday Akhara
3. Udasin Sampraday Akhara
Types of Akharas
Here is the list of akharas that come under particular Sampraday with its headquarters and location.
1. Shaiv Sampraday Akharas
This sampraday is the largest in India with seven Akharas under their control. The largest Akhara Juna akhara also comes under this Sampraday.
- Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, Daraganj, Prayag, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Panch Atal Akhara, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Panchayati Akhara Niranjani, Dara Ganj, Prayag, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Taponidhi Aanand Akhara Panchayati, Trimbakeshwar, Nashik, Maharashtra.
- Shri Panch Dashnaam Juna Akhara, Baba Hanuman Ghat, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Panch Dashnaam Avahan Akhara, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Kashi, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Panch Dash Naam Panch Agni Akhara, Girinagar Bhavnath, Junagadh, Gujarat.
The members of this sampraday are called Bairagi or Vairagi. They are followers who are divided into three categories: Renunciant (Virakt), Warrior (Naga) and Temple-dwelling (temple priest) ascetics.

- Shri Nirvani Ani Akhara, Hanuman Gaadi, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

3. Udasin Sampraday Akharas
There is no deep-rooted information available on the origin of Udasin Sampraday Akharas but they are in existence at present so they count themselves as major Akharas.
- Shri Pancharati Bada Udasin Akhara, Krishna Nagar, Kitganj, Prayag, Uttar Pradesh.
- Shri Panchayati Akhara Naya Udasin, Kankhal, Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
- Shri Nirmal Panchayati Akhara, Kankhal, Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Mahanirvani Akhara
Based in the holy city of Haridwar, this Akhara is one of the primary groups among the 7 main Shaiva Akharas, which are part of the larger Naga Sadhu tradition.
Out Of 13 Akharas, there are 3 Shashtra Dhari Akhars and Mahanirvani Akhara is one of them. The Akhara plays a significant role in the Kumbh Mela, where its Saints participate in grand processions and religious rituals.
The Mahanirvani Akhara has branches in Haridwar, Ujjain and Baroda and its head office is in Kashi (Varanasi). They preserve Hindu traditions through rituals, cultural events and modern engagements. Akharas also contribute to social, environmental and educational causes.
Even today, the chief deity (Upaasyadev) of the Mahanirvani Akhada is the legendary saint Kapila Mahamuni. Kapila Mahamuni is also believed as first saint of the Naga lineage.
History of Mahanirvani Akhara
Mahanirvani Akhara was established in 748 CE by Seven Saints of Shri Panchayati Atal Akhara by worshipping lord Vishnu in the form of Shri Kapila Mahamuni.
Mahanirvani Akhara has a history of more than 1200 years and the akhara helped many kings fight against the Mughals, Britishers and other attacks on the Hindu religion.
Saints and followers of Mahanirvani Akhara believe & follow the traditions of the Sanatan Hindu Religion.
The prime god of Mahanirvani Akhara is the 5th Incarnation of lord Vishnu, Lord Kapila Mahamuni.
Akharas were established to protect religion. The names of the sadhus in the seven Shaiva or Dashanami akharas reflect lineages such as

Mahanirvani Akhara in Kumbh Mela 2025
The holy process of Dharma Dhwaja Sthapana was completed on Sunday, December 22, 2024, by the saint and Mahamandaleshwar of Mahanirvani Akhara near Triveni Sangam.
The length of Dharma Dhwaja is 52 hath long in other words it is 78 feet long. The colour of Dharma Dhwaja is Saffron.
The process of Peshwai and Chawni Pravesh will be on January 2, 2025, with a long raili and all saints of Shaiv Sampraday will take part in it.
The place of Stay or Chawani of Mahanirvani Akhara is at Akhara Nagar, Near Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj. Vedic Chants, Updesh and Shahi Snan will be done at Mahanirvani Panchayati Akhara in Kumbh Mela 2025.
