Dress Code at Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The Padmanabh temple is dedicated to Lord Padmanabha – an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The atmosphere of the temple is so religious and pure that when you breathe near the temple, it feels as if you are cleaning your soul and making it pure.

The Idol of Padmanabhaswamy

The presiding deity’s idol is awesome and unique in itself. There are a total of 12,008 Shaligrama stones(A form of Lord Vishnu, taken from the banks of the River Gandaki which flows through India and Nepal) used in the main idol.

The Lord is in a reclining pose. He reclines on Adi Shesha Naga. While his right hand is on top of the Shiv Ling. From Lord Vishnu’s Navel, it can be seen that Lord Brahma is appearing out on a Lotus. There are two consorts of Lord Vishnu accompanying him on his side.

The Large idol is visible through three doors in a devotee’s eye, the first one shows Lord Vishnu with his hand on Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma and Goddess Sridevi are visible from the second door and Kaudinya Muni and Goddess Bhudevi from the third door.

There are six sealed vaults established present beneath the temple premises. The contents of these vaults are considered highly valuable and a secret.

Trivandrum is connected by road to other cities. Trivandrum bus stand is around 1.6km from Sri Padmanabhswamy temple. One can hire a cab or auto from the Bus Station to reach the temple.
