Jagannath Temple (Starting Point)
The Jagannath Yatra starts at the Jagannath Temple, one of the four major Char Dham religious destinations.
Bada Danda (Grand Road)
The deities are carried through Puri’s main street, Bada Danda, about 3 km from Sri Mandira. This is the main road that connects the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.
Mausima Temple
The chariots stop short at the Mausima Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath’s aunt. The deities are offered a special Poda Pitha, a sweet made from rice, jaggery and coconut.
Balagandi
This is a significant place along the route where many devotees gather to see the deities.
Gundicha Temple (Destination)
The procession ends at Gundicha Temple, where the deities stay for nine days. It is considered to be Lord Jagannath’s birthplace and has great significance during the Rath Yatra.
Bahuda Yatra
After the nine-day stay at the Gundicha Temple, the deities make their return journey to the Jagannath Temple in a similar procession, which is known as the Bahuda Yatra.
