This blog explains the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra Route in simple words with a map to follow. Puri Rath Yatra is a grand Hindu festival celebrated every year at Jagannath Puri. This year the Rath Yatra Festival marks June 20th, 2023.

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra route map has several stops before the chariots reach the Gundicha Temple.

Puri to Gundicha temple is just 3 km away. However owing to the massive crowds, Puri Rath Yatra takes a couple of hours to reach.

Once there, the goddesses stay in the temple for nine days. Giving pilgrims darshan before returning to Puri in the same manner. The trek back is also famous as the Bahuda Yatra.

The procession comes to a halt on the way back to the Mausi Maa Temple (their aunt’s house). Where the goddesses will have Poda Pitha (a type of delicious pancake). It is a belief that it is a poor man’s cuisine that Lord Jagannath enjoyed.

The Rath carrying three principal deities will proceed onto the Grand Road.
Gajapati Maharaja Palace and Mausi Maa Temple are located mid-way off the grand road.

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra follows a predefined schedule and route. The temple darshan timings are also different during Rath Yatra.

Temple Opening Time: 5 AM

Temple Closing Time: 9.30 PM

Rath Yatra Rituals

As was already said, the three idols will head to Gundicha Temple on chariots. Before the deities reach the Gundicha Temple, there will be many ceremonies and rituals.

Paramanik Darshan from 9 am to 10:30 am.

General Public Darshan from 9 am to 10:30 am, 2 to 3 pm, and in the evening from  6 to 6:30 pm.

Darshan will be restricted during the rest hours.

NOTE: On Ubha Yatra Day (30th June) public darshan will not be available after 5pm.
