सर्वदेवात्मको रुद्र: सर्वे देवा: शिवात्मका:।
रुद्रात्प्रवर्तते बीजं बीजयोनिर्जनार्दन:।।
यो रुद्र: स स्वयं ब्रह्मा यो ब्रह्मा स हुताशन:।
ब्रह्मविष्णुमयो रुद्र अग्नीषोमात्मकं जगत्।।
अर्थात भगवान रूद्र ही जग सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा तथा जग पालन पोषण करता विष्णु हैं और सभी देवता रुद्र के ही अंश हैं। इस सम्पूर्ण चराचर जगत में सभी कुछ रुद्र से ही जन्मा हुआ है। इससे यह सिद्ध होता है कि रूद्र ही ब्रह्म हैं और वही स्वयंभू भी हैं।
यश्च सागरपर्यन्तां सशैलवनकाननाम्।
सर्वान्नात्मगुणोपेतां सुवृक्षजलशोभिताम्।।
दद्यात् कांचनसंयुक्तां भूमिं चौषधिसंयुताम्।
तस्मादप्यधिकं तस्य सकृद्रुद्रजपाद्भवेत्।।
यश्च रुद्रांजपेन्नित्यं ध्यायमानो महेश्वरम्।
स तेनैव च देहेन रुद्र: संजायते ध्रुवम्।।
अर्थात जो प्राणी सागर पर्यंत, वन, पर्वत, जल एवं वृक्षों से युक्त तथा श्रेष्ठ गुणों से युक्त ऐसी महान पृथ्वी का दान करता है, जो धन-धान्य तथा सुवर्ण और औषधियों से भी युक्त हो, उसके दान करने से जो फल प्राप्त होता है, उससे भी कहीं अधिक पुण्य फल एक बार के रुद्री जप अर्थात रुद्राभिषेक से प्राप्त हो जाता है। इसलिए जो कोई भी भगवान शिव का ध्यान करके रुद्री पाठ करता है और रुद्राभिषेक मंत्र से भगवान शिव को मनाता है, वह प्राणी उसी देह से भगवान रूद्र स्वरूप ही हो जाता है, इसमें तनिक भी संदेह नहीं है।

मयस्कराय च नम: शिवाय च शिवतराय च ॥
ईशानः सर्वविद्यानामीश्व रः सर्वभूतानां ब्रह्माधिपतिर्ब्रह्मणोऽधिपति

विश्वा भूतं भुवनं चित्रं बहुधा जातं जायामानं च यत् । सर्वो ह्येष रुद्रस्तस्मै रुद्राय नमो अस्तु ॥
रुद्राष्टाध्यायी में कुल कुल दस अध्याय हैं, जिनका पाठ रुद्राभिषेक के समय किया जाता है। इनमें भी आठ अध्याय मुख्य हैं, जिनके आधार पर ही इसको रुद्राष्टाध्यायी कहा गया है। आठवां अध्याय सबसे अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसे ‘नमक चमक’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। नमक चमक का पाठ बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है, और इसके पाठ से भगवान शिव आप से शीघ्र अति शीघ्र प्रसन्न होते हैं। रुद्राष्टाध्यायी यजुर्वेद का एक अंग माना गया है।

Sage Satapatha identified four different abhisheka processes in his work “Maharnava Karma Vipaka.” This is according to Vedic and biblical traditions.
