Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Jammu
It was described as a proud and joyful day for Jammu and Kashmir by the Lieutenant Governor of the state. The occasion was the laying of the foundation stone for Sri Venkateswara Temple in Jammu. This temple will be built by Tirumala – Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). A number of dignitaries including the LG – Manoj Sinha and Ram Madhav of the RSS were present on this occasion.
62 acres of land in the Majhin area of Jammu has been allotted by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for this purpose. The temple project will include several facilities like Ved Pathshala, Hostel and Staff quarters, residential rooms for devotees, Kalyana Mandapam, Vahana Mandapam etc. The construction will be completed in two phases within 18 months and is expected to cost about 34 crore rupees.
TTD has promised to build a magnificent temple which will be a spiritual center and an attraction for large numbers of devotees. They will also set up centers of excellence for health care, as they have in Andhra Pradesh.
The proposed temple is located about 5 km from Jammu Railway Station and about 7 km from the Jammu Airport.
