Sri Vakula Devi is Lord Venkateswara’s adoptive mother and Yashoda Mata’s avatar. Maa Yashoda’s wish has not been fulfilled to see Lord Krishna’s marriage. So, He granted her a boon in a dream that in his other incarnation he would fulfil her wish. 

The relationship between mother and son and motherly love is seen here. As per Maa Vakula Devi’s wish, The temple is built in the way Maata’s face faces the seven hills where Lord Venkateswara resides. Vakula Devi is the Mother of Lord Srinivasa. 

Yashoda Devi, The mother of Krishna has reborn as Vakula Devi, the foster mother of Lord Venkateshwara. Here, Maata Vakula Devi arranged the Kalyanam of Lord Venkateswara with Goddess Padmavati Devi. Thus her wish to see the Lord’s Kalyanam is fulfilled.

History Behind the Vakulamatha Temple

The Vakula Devi Temple is around 300 years old. This temple has spread over 83.42 acres and is developed as a tourist pilgrimage hub. The Gopuram of the temple has been gold plated with 20kg of Gold. The temple has been renovated as per the Agama Shashtra.

There is also an interesting thing that here in this temple, The first pooja was performed here and then the pooja started at the main temple in Tirumala. Later, when Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan invaded here the temple faced a share of spoils and the temple lost its glory.

Even today after the temple’s renovation, we can see the mother-son’s love. The Naivedyam ( Bhog) is first offered to Mata Vakula Devi and then to Lord Venkateswara. The Priests rang a huge bell at Vakulamatha temple to indicate that the Bhog was offered to Mata and later the priests at Lord Venkateswara offered Naivedyam to the Lord.
