The sanctum sanctorum of the Kodandarama Temple houses beautiful idols of “Lord Sri Kodandarama Swamy Varu” (Shri Rama), Goddess Sita Ammavaru, and Sri Lakshmana Swamy Varu. The style of Kodandarama Temple is influenced by the architecture of Vijayanagara. Signs and seals of the Vijayanagara dynasty are inscribed on the walls of the outer mandapa of this temple.

History of Kodandarama Swamy Temple

According to mythological belief, Lord Shri Ram, Mata Sita, and Shri Lakshmana, while returning from Lanka, stayed at this place to rest, after which a temple dedicated to them was built here.

The construction of the Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple was started by Chola king Narasingha Raja Mudaliar in 10th AD. This temple was rebuilt by King Shri Krishna Dev Raya in the fifteenth century.

History of Tirupati 

Tirupati is mentioned as Trivengadam in the oldest source of Tamil literature “Sangam Sahitya”, which was used for the northern border of Tamil states.

Tirupati is also addressed as “Aadi Varaha Kshetra” in the Puranic literature of the Maurya and Gupta reigns. In the Puranas, Lord Varaha is said to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
