Alandi is a pilgrimage town located in the Pune district of Maharashtra State. It is famous for the resting place or ‘samadhi’ of Saint Dnyaneshwar. Sant Dnyaneshwar was a famous poet-saint in the 13th century known for his contribution to Marathi literature, especially the translation of the Bhagavad Gita to Marathi. The town is located on the banks of the holy river Indrayani.

Festivals Celebrated in Alandi:
There are two major festivals celebrated in Alandi during the year.
- Palkhi Festival – Alandi Palkhi Yatra is a 22-day long festival, where a procession starts from Alandi during the month of Jyestha (June). The Palkhi consists of symbolic sandals of Sant Dyaneshwar. On the eleventh day of the first half of the month of Asadh, the Palkhi reaches Pandharpur.
- Kartika Vaidya Ekadashi – This is the other yatra celebrated during the year. It is a four-day long festival and falls close to the day Dnyaneshwar entered samadhi. Lakhs of devotees join to attend the Palkhi festival every day.
