Ambubachi Mela also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility festival is one of the important festivals in Assam. The Ambubachi Mela is an annual Hindu mela held at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. After a gap of two years, Ambubachi Mela 2022 is hosted for four days from Wednesday 23rd June, despite the flood in Assam.

Ambubachi Mela 2022 Details

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the devotees visiting Ambubachi Mela.

Note:

  • Personal vehicles or public transport aren’t been allowed.
  • For senior citizens and devotees with special needs are being ferried in vehicles provided by the district administration to the top of the hills

Pravritti- doors of the temple are symbolically closed for 4 days and Nivritri- the opening of the doors will take place on June 26.

Due to the devastating floods in the state, the festival is being observed in a subdued manner this time.

It is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of goddess Kamakhya. It is also believed that during the monsoon rains, the creative and nurturing power of the menses of Mother Earth becomes accessible to devotees at this site during the mela. There is no idol of the presiding deity but she is worshipped in the form of a yoni-like stone instead over which a natural spring flows.

Due to the pandemic, the Kamakhya temple was closed for the public.
