The Chardham Yatra is a significant pilgrimage tour in Hinduism where devotees visit 4 Dhams situated in Uttarakhand. These four Dham are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. As we all know the kapat is open for darshan and the yatra also begins on 10th May. Many of people are searching for routes, distances, stay, buses and prices. Our Journey will start from Haridwar because it is the nearest way to start the yatra and well connected to major cities by rails and bus.

How To Reach Yamunotri Dham

So we will begin from the first Dham i.e., Yamunotri Temple. The journey will start from Haridwar and you will easily get buses from there. To reach Yamunotri there are two routes – Via Dehradun Mussoorie and Via Rishikesh Chamba. Most of the devotees choose the second route by Rishikesh.

From Where I will get the bus?
You will get your bus near Haridwar Railway Station at a walking distance of 100 meters. No government buses are running for the Chardham. Private buses are available all over the route including TGMOC Ltd and GMOU Ltd.

Usually from 3:00 AM buses are started for every Dham till 10:00 AM. It is recommended to get a bus early in the morning only. If you don’t want to travel by bus then you can even hire a private taxi which you will easily get near Haridwar Railway Station only.

Haridwar To Yamunotri Route and Distance

Route 1 – Yamunotri via Dehradun from Haridwar (228 km)

Route 2 – Yamunotri via Rishikesh Chamba From Haridwar

Buses from Haridwar to Yamunotri

Maybe You will not get a direct bus to Yamunotri so you can take a bus to Dunda / Uttarkashi or Barkot after reaching any nearby bus stand you will easily get a taxi or bus to Janki Chatti or depending on where you want to stay (Janki Chatti/Rana Chatti/Barkot).

Take a night stay in the above-mentioned town and visit the temple in the early morning by starting your trek from Janki Chatti. Visit the temple and have darshan and Puja in Yamunotri. Return Back to Janki Chatti. Your one Dham has been completed now you want to stay overnight here you can or you can leave for your second Dham Gangotri.

How To Reach Gangotri Dham

As we complete our first Dham now it is time to visit the second Dham i.e.., Gangotri Temple. After having a darshan at Yamunotri Temple you will get a bus or sharing taxi from Janki Chatti. Most probably there is no direct bus to Gangotri. So you have to change the transport according to the convenience till Barkot or Uttarkashi then from Uttarkashi you have to again change the bus/taxi to reach Gangotri.

While reaching Gangotri visit Gangotri Temple and have a darshan after that have your meal at a nearby restaurant or food stall. Visit Gangotri’s nearby places including Bhagirath Shila, Surya Kund and Pandava Gufa.

After a full day of travelling and exploration go back to your Dharamshala or other accommodation options. Take a rest overnight and in the early morning start your journey to the third dham Kedarnath Temple.

Buses From Yamunotri to Gangotri

You will easily get buses from Janki Chatti or Barkot to Uttarkashi or Gangotri. If you don’t get a direct bus take a bus to Uttarkashi and then to Gangotri.

How To Reach Kedarnath Temple

Gangotri to Kedarnath is a long journey around 11-12 hours till Gaurikund after that you have to start your Kedarnath trek on the next day in the early morning.

After your overnight stay in Gangotri or Uttarkashi wake up early and take a bus or sharing taxi. There is no direct bus or shared taxi available. You will easily get a private taxi. From Gangotri, you can get a bus to Haridwar or Rishikesh where you can get down in Tehri or Chamba. From take a bus or taxi to kedarnath Road (Guptkashi, Songrapayag, Phata. Whichever on-route vehicle will be available take that because you have to reach Sonprayag or Gaurikund by night or evening. Sometimes it will also take more time because of traffic.

After reaching Guptkashi or a nearby route take a taxi to Sonprayag after reaching there. Maybe you will reach Sonprayag and take an overnight stay in Sonprayag or Sitapur. It is recommended to start your trekking from Gaurikund to Kedarnath by 4:00 AM in the morning.

From Sonprayag you will easily get a sharing taxi with Rs.50-100 to Gaurikund. Sonprayag is the last stop of buses and own vehicles. To reach Gaurikund you have to take a sharing taxi. After reaching there start your trek by earliest as possible. Night trekking for Kedarnath is not allowed.

There are very less direct buses from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Sonprayag. Maybe you have to change buses or take a taxi for your journey.

Kedarnath to Haridwar Buses

After doing a trek of 16 km from Gaurikund to Kedarnath check in to nearby Dharamshala in Kedarnath take a short rest and go for darshan at the temple. During peak season there is a long line which will may take a long time. After the darshan have your meals at a nearby restaurant and explore the local area. After that, you can visit your accommodation for a rest. Wake up early in the morning by 5:00 AM and visit the temple again for darshan and Abhishek. By this, you have completed your 3rd Dham Kedarnath Temple.

Further, move toward Badrinath Dham or anyone who wants to visit only Kedarnath Temple can return back to Haridwar/Rishikesh via Guptkashi.

After this come down to Gaurikund by 16 km trek and then to Sonprayag/Sitapur. From there you will get buses and taxi for Haridwar, Rishikesh and Badrinath.

How To Reach Badrinath Dham

For Badrinath maybe there are no direct buses from Kedarnath. There are two routes to reach Badrinath.

Route 1: Kedarnath to Badrinath via Rudraprayag
Route 2: Kedarnath to Badrinath via Ukhimath, Chopta, Mandal, Gopeshwar and Chamoli Road

Route 1 is long but has wide roads compared to Route 2. So it’s up to you to choose the routes. The devotees coming directly from Haridwar/Rishikesh are suggested to take route 1 for your Yatra.

so we recommended taking the bus to Rudraprayag (Route 1) or Chopta/Ukkhimath (Route 2) overnight stay in the particular towns. By night rest take a bus or taxi to Badrinath. If not getting a direct bus/taxi to Badrinath then try to find Joshimath. From Joshimath take a sharing taxi to Badrinath.

After reaching there book your stay there and after that visit Badrinath Temple for darshan. While visiting the temple you will pass through the market. After the darshan must explore the local market of Badrinath.

After a day full of exploration you can go back to your Dharamshala or Hotel stay overnight. On the next day take a bus or taxi to Haridwar or Rishikesh. Then back to your hometown.
