Kanchi Kamakshi Temple Dress Code

History of The Kamakshi Temple Kanchipuram
As per Indian mythology, 51 Shakti Peethas are set up in India at every place where the body parts of the burnt Goddess Sati fell. In the same way, the Kamakshi Aman Shakti Peeth is being built. The story runs that the naval part of the Body had fallen at this holy place.

It is assumed that the Pallava kings built the temple. Later expanding the temple, the Chola and Vijaynagar kings added small temples around the temple.

According to legend, Kamakshi Amma prayed to marry Shiva while standing on one foot on a needle. They got married in the Uttara Nakshatra month of Phalgun, fulfilling her request.

The Architecture of The Temple
The astonishing multi-layer architecture of the temple covers over 5 acres of land. Mark with stunning gopuram at the entrance, which is a sign of the Dravidian style architecture which is commonly seen in south India. Gopuram is a tower-like structure that is furnished with statues of God and Goddesses.
