Kedarnath Temple Information
Kedarnath, a temple of Lord Shiv is in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Located near the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River. Adi Shankaracharya built the temple in the 8th century.

STRUCTURE OF THE KEDARNATH TEMPLE
You can see a statue of the Nandi bull outside the temple door which stands as a guard. The Kedarnath temple is more than 1000 years old. And is built of very large, heavy, and evenly cut gray slabs of stones. It’s a wonder how the laborers handled these heavy slabs.
There is a ‘Garbha Griha‘ for worship and mandap. Even, pilgrims and visitors gather here. According to Hindu legends, the Pandavas originally built the temple, and is one of the temple 12 Jyotirlingas.
HISTORY OF THE KEDARNATH TEMPLE
It is not certain who built the original Kedarnath temple and when. The name Kedarnath means “the lord of the field”. The Pandavas wanted to seek forgiveness for killing their kin during the war, but Lord Shiva did not want to forgive them and so, he turned into a bull and hid among the cattle on the hill. But the Pandavas found Lord Shiva and then they built the first temple at Kedarnath. Contrary, the Mahabharata which describes the Kurukshetra war does not mention any place called Kedarnath
HOW TO REACH KEDARNATH
The Kedarnath temple is at a height of 3,583 meters from Rishikesh. The temple is not directly reachable by road and has to be reached by 16 kilometers uphill trek from Gaurikund.
How to reach Gaurikhand
Chandigarh, Delhi, Nagpur, Banglore, or Rishikesh is perfectly linked to Kedarnath by road. The view is very beautiful because you can explore the ghats and mountains if traveling by road.
From, Haridwar, Kotdwar, or Dehradun it is easy to reach Kedarnath by train.
You can travel by airplane from Dehradun. So, you can reach Kedarnath by all means of transport.
You can reach Kedarnath only after a steep 16 km trek from Gauri Kund. Or one can choose the ride of horse, Dandies, and Ponies. However, it is chargeable and charges differ. The road from Rishikesh to Gaurikund remains close from the evening from 8 pm to the morning at 4 am.
How to reach Kedarnath By Helicopter
Even, you can reach Kedarnath easily via Helicopter. Uttrakhand government operates helicopter services. The helicopter is accessibly available from Dehradun, Gauchar, and Phata. The timings and rates are available on inquiry.
Guptakshi to Kedarnath by helicopter
You can avail of helicopter service from Guptkashi to Kedarnath, to and fro. The luggage carrying limit is 2 kg only and more than that is strictly not allowed. The weight of the person can max of 80 kgs.
Phata to Kedarnath by helicopter
The distance from Phata to Kedarnath is just 500m. The traveling usually takes 8-10 minutes to reach.
