Parli Vaijnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. Parali is a taluka in the Beed district of Maharashtra and is primarily known for the temple. It is built out of stone on a small hill and is surrounded by a wall that protects it from all sides. In the Hindu month of Shravan pilgrims come here to have a ‘darshan’ of the auspicious ‘Shivlinga’.

Parli Vaijnath Temple History

According to mythology, it is said that Ravana on his way from the Himalayas to Lanka was carrying this Jyotirling and Narad Muni conned him into dropping the Linga at this very place. The Linga is believed to have been stuck here since then.

The mountains, jungles, and rivers nearby are full of useful medicinal herbs. That is why Parali Jyotirlinga is also known as Vaidyanath.

While performing Abhishekam, Male devotees are not allowed to wear clothes above the waist.
Devotees themselves perform the abhisheka here and they use the Bilva leaves purchased outside the Parli Vaijnath Temple precincts.

A minaret outside the Parli Vaijnath Temple has Gwakshas or windows. When the sun’s rays pass through the windows and fall directly on the Shiva Linga, the priests offer special prayers and poojas to the Sun God.

The waters of the nearby Harihara Teerth are brought to the Parli Vaijnath Temple daily for the Linga Pooja.

Parli is the place where Hari and Hara met. Hari means ‘Vishnu’ and Hara means ‘Shiva.’ So, along with the festivals relating to Shiva, festivals relating to Vishnu are also celebrated with the same enthusiasm.
