About the legend at Trimbakeshwar
Trimbakeshwar is one of the twelve jyotirlingas. The extraordinary feature of the jyotirlinga located here is its three faces embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Rudra.
The Trimbakeshwar Temple is the only Jyotirlinga where the actual Linga is present in a depression or a cavity.
Due to excessive use of water linga has started to erode symbolising the eroding human nature. The linga is also covered by a crown which is placed over the gold mask of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The crown is from the age of Pandavas and is displayed every Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The entire black stone temple is known for its appealing architecture and sculpture and is at the foothills of a mountain called Brahmagiri. Three sources of the Godavari originate from the Brahmagiri Mountain.
