Srikalahasti temple is located in the Chittoor district of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The town of the temple is famous among the devotees. Tirupati temple is just 36 km from here. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has great importance to Hindus. Temple was constructed by king Krishnadevraya in the year 1516 of the Vijayanagar empire.

History of the Srikalahasti temple
The myth behind the temple runs that the Spider (Sri), a Snake (Kala), and an Elephant (Hasti) worshipped the Lord shiva in the town to attain Moksha. Therefore the temple is named after these three lives. The temple is believed to be built in the 5th century during the Pallava period, according to many religious believers.
Further renovation, of the temple complex, and the latest architecture of the temple were done during the period of the Chola Kingdom in the 11th century and in the 16th century by the Vijayanagar Dynasty.
The architecture of the Srikalahasti Temple
Srikalahasti temple is the best example of the Dravidian style architecture built during the Pallava period during the 5th century. The entrance of the temple is facing the south and the main shrine faces the west. Shiva linga is made up of white stone, and the main shrine resembles the shape of an elephant tank.
The Mandap in the temple consists of the 100 beautifully carved pillars, which were built during the Vijayanagar king, Krishnadevraya in 1516. There are many other shrines of different Gods like Ganesha which are carved from the 9 feet tall rock. It all has the shrines of Jnanaprasanammba, Kasi Viswanatha, Suryanarayan, Subramanya, Annapurna, and Sadyoganapathi.
