About Thirunallar Temple Sri Dharbaranyeswara Swamy Devasthanam, Thirunallar
Sri Dharbaranyeswara Swamy Devasthanam in Thirunallar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is worshipped as Sri Dharbaranyeswarar. Mata Parvati is worshipped as Pranamambika Devi. Shani Dev is also worshipped here primarily as this is where Lord Shiva blessed Shani Dev. The temple is also well known for Shani worship and is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams. This area was formerly known as Darbharanya, as it was fully covered with a forest of Darbha grass.
The story of Nala and Damyanti
It is said that King Nala got married to Damyanti of the Nishada Kingdom. This was not liked by the Devas who asked Shani Dev to create problems for King Nala. This resulted in untold misery for King Nala who then came here and prayed to Lord Shiva. This pleased Shani Dev who removed His curse from the king and promised anyone worshipping here would be relieved of his problems related to Shani Dosh.
