About Srivaikuntanathan Perumal Temple
One of the Nava Tirupathi temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is located on the banks of the Thamirabarani River in Srivaikuntam. It is also one of the 108 ‘Divya Desams’ of Lord Vishnu. In this temple, Lord Vishnu is known as Vaikuntanathar and Mata Lakshmi as Vaikuntavalli. Srivaikuntanathan Perumal Temple is also one of the Navagrahas with Surya Dev as the deity.
Theft of the Four Vedas from Brahma Ji
Somakasura, a demon once defeated Lord Brahma and stole the four Vedas. This caused great distress and Lord Brahma prayed to Lord Vishnu on the banks of the Thamirabarani river and asked for help. Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Vaikuntanathar, killed Somakasura, and recovered the Vedas. After that, He wished to stay here forever in that form.
