Kedarnath Temple Opening and Closing Dates:

The opening dates and time of the Kedarnath temple is decided on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritya and declared on the Mahashivratri. This is decided by the priest of Ukhimath’s Omkareshwar Temple after calculation on Panchang. Normally Kedarnath temple opens on the Subh Muharat of Akshay Tritya.

The closing date of Kedarnath is fixed on the day Bhai Dooj and the temple are closed after the Pooja Archana in Morning.

How to reach Kedarnath Temple

By Air:

The nearest airport to Kedarnath is Jolly Grant airport situated at a distance of 238 km. From the airport, you can easily get to Gaurikund, local transportation is easily available to reach there.

By Railway:

The nearest railway station to Kedarnath is at Rishikesh at a distance of 216 km. Gauirkund connects well to Rishikesh, so one can easily get the local transportation facilities from the Rishikesh Railway station to Gaurikund.

By Road:

Take the National Highway 109 which connects the Rudraprayag and Kedarnath. Gaurikund connects well to all the nearby cities such as Rishikesh, Haridwar, Pauri, Srinagar, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, etc by cabs and buses. So one can easily get to Gaurikund by road.

Trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Temple

After the Gaurikund there is a 16 km trek that cannot be covered through any transportation.

If the devotees do not want to reach Kedarnath through Trek one can Hire a Helicopter from the Phata. Daily service of Helicopter is available. 5 seater helicopter operates between Kedarnath and Gaurikund by different tour companies.

Another option, which you can go for is a horse ride or the palanquin service available in the area.
