The Gangotri temple opens for six months every year, between the end of April and the beginning of November, due to heavy snowfall in the region during the winter months. The temple’s management committee and the priests decide the exact date for the opening and closing of the temple, which is announced well in advance.

Gangotri is a Hindu temple and a pilgrimage site located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the four sacred shrines in India’s Char Dham pilgrimage. The temple is situated in the western region of the Garhwal Himalayas, at an elevation of 3,100 meters above sea level.

It is dedicated to the goddess Ganga, the Hindu goddess of the River Ganges. The temple is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, considered the source of the Ganges River.

Gangotri Temple Opening and Closing Time

The temple opens from 6:15 AM to 2:00 PM. It closes for an hour and opens again at 3:00 PM. Gangotri temple closes for an hour in the afternoon, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 PM and then at 9:30 PM at night.

Gangotri Temple Aarti Timings

The Gangotri temple Aarti timings are 6:00 AM when Mangala Aarti is performed behind closed doors. The second Aarti takes place at 7:45 PM.

Note: The temple closes Darshan for certain times in the day for Maha Bhog for 10 minutes from 9:00 AM to 9:10 AM and in the afternoon for an hour.

Gangotri Darshan Timings 

The temple opens around 6:15 AM, where devotees are allowed to take darshan till 2:00 pm. After which, the temple is open for darshan at 3:00 pm.
