Mathura is a Hindu holy town that is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh State. It has been mentioned in historical records. Once, it was known as Madhuvan because of the huge and deep forests.
Lately, it has been known as Mathura. It’s covered by various temples. Mathura is the birthplace of God Krishna, where he won the fight against the Kansa.
Shri Dauji Maharaj Mandir is around 20 kilometers from Mathura. It is easy to travel over there by taxi, cab, or bus. The main deity of this temple is Lord Balaram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna.
The Dauji Mandir is one of the oldest temples in the city. The temple has been standing for more than 5000 years.
History of Dauji Mandir
As per the Hindu Purana, Dauji Maharaj Temple is connected with Kalyan Dev Ji’s life story, who brought both idols out of the ground.
One day Kalyan Dev Ji decided to go on a pilgrimage to Mathura and after leaving home, he circumambulated Shri Girraj, took a bath in Mansi Ganga and then reached Mathura city.
Here, Shri Kalyan Dev ji took a bath in Shri Yamuna ji and, after having darshan, moved ahead and reached Vidrumavan, where today’s present day is Baldev Nagar.
He rested here for the night. He liked both the shade of dense banyan trees and the banks of the Yamuna. As a result, he decided to meditate there for a few days.
One day, Lord Shri Balram appeared to Kalyan Devji after his daily work and asked for a boon. Kalyan Devji bent down and asked, “Lord, apart from seeing you every day, I don’t need anything.”
Shri Dauji Maharaj instructed Shri Kalyan Devji that “the idols of me and Shri Revati ji were hidden under this banyan tree; reveal them.” So he started digging for that land and after some time, he found both ideals.
In Gokul, Goswami Gokulnathji had a dream about a Shyama Gau (cow) oozing milk on his idol (Shri Dauji Maharaj). The cowherd whom you are considering guilty is innocent. My idols are situated under the banyan tree in Vidrumavan; make them visible.
This is one of the 12 idols created by Shri Krishna’s grandson for Brij Dham; later on, all of them were eventually incorporated into the soil.
After that, Goswamiji decided to go to the above-mentioned place. When he went there, he saw that Shri Kalyan Devji had dug out both idols from the ground. After reaching there and greeting each other, both of them narrated their respective stories. They then decided that it would be best to take the idols out of this dense jungle and place them in Gokul.
It is reported that despite the removal of the idol by several individuals and twenty-four bulls, it remained in place, resulting in a great deal of wasted work. Having conceded the argument, it was decided that both sculptures would be placed where they first appeared.
Therefore, the place where Shri Kalyan Dev used to carry out devotion was initially founded in Parnakuti; as a result, the boon was effective and Kalyan Devji had the chance to live in the home every day.
