Maha Shivratri – the festival of Lord Shiva. As we know this festival is celebrated all over India. Devetooes of Shivji are eagerly waiting for this day. In Ujjain at Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple Shivratri is celebrated with a grand celebration of 9 days before it.

Shivratri is one of the best festivals celebrated in Ujjain. and you should experience it once in your life because it is the only Shiva temple where this festival is celebrated for 9 days.

Maha Shivratri At Mahakal Temple

Various rituals and programs are going to be performed during the 9-day Shivnavratri Utsav, which is scheduled to start at the Mahakaleshwar Temple on account of Maha Shivratri.

9 days before Shivratri, devotees impress Shivji with Abhishek and mantra. Devotees also use Shringar to show Lord Shiva and its highlights and story.

On the last day, Panchamrit Abhishek and Bhasmarti are done at Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees come during these 9 days, especially on Maha Shivratri.

Shivpanchami puja is going to be performed at Koteshwar Mahadev located near Kotiteerth Kund. It will be followed by Ekadash-Ekadashni Rudrabhishek and Bhog aarti. Special decorations of the Mahakal Jyotirlinga are going to be made during the subsequent 9 days at 4:00 PM.

Like per annum, a sola (unstitched dhoti) and a variant are going to be presented to 11 Brahmins and two assistant priests for performing the rituals.

Also, Hari Kirtan will be held every day between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM near Navrhih Mandir. It will be done by Pt Ramesh Kandadkar (Indore), whose father Shriram Kanadkar started practising it in 1909.

Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee informed that the entry of devotees within the Garbh-Grah will remain restricted during the mega event. They will be allowed to possess the darshan of the presiding deity from the barricaded stairs behind Nandi Mandapam. According to the administrator, devotees are going to be allowed to return to the temple from the Chardham Mandir side.
