About Badrinath Temple

Badrinath Temple is a holy temple of Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams. It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple stands at a height of about 3300 meters and is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River.

2026 Gaadu Ghada Tel Yatra for Badrinath Dham

Gaadu Ghada is a pitcher of oil which is sent from the place before the opening of the temple doors. This tradition has been in practice for hundreds of years. It is used for the rituals of the reopening of the temple. Long pujas and rituals precede the opening of the temple doors.

The process of opening the Badrinath temple started with the extraction of sesame oil for the Gaadu Ghada yatra. A puja Archana takes place at the royal residence, Narendranagar Palace, for Gaadu Ghada yatra. The tradition of getting sesame oil for Badrinath Temple will be concluded on 2nd May at Royal Residence, Narendranagar, New Tehri Narandnagar.  

The sesame oil was used for the consecration of Lord Badri Vishal on the occasion of the opening of the doors of Shri Badrinath Dham. Shri Badrinath Dham Gadu Ghada Oil Kalash Yatra started from Narendra Nagar Raj Darbar on the late evening of 2nd May.

Badrinath Darshan Timings 

The temple opens up at 7:00 AM for visitors till 12:00 PM. The Badrinath Kapat closes at 12:00 PM and opens at 4:00 PM. The mandir then closes at 9:00 PM.
