Shiv-Parvati

Shiv-Parvati

There is a mythological story about the temple. Once lord Shiva was passing through this forest near the river Narmada with goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati felt hungry and thirsty due to the long walk, due to she requested some food and water for Lord Shiva.

But Lord Shiva could not find water and food nearby. So he decided to stay in the form of food and water so that whenever other pilgrims visit the place they can get food and water.

So Lord stayed there adopting the name Kuber Bhandari who is said to be the God of food and water.

God of Wealth

Kuberji Temple

So this is the story of the time of Ramayana about Bramha’s son Pulastya and his son Vishrava. Vishrava had two wives Idvida and Kaikasi. Idvida was the daughter of Bhardwaj, and Kaikasi was the daughter of the demon Sumali.

Idvida had only one son named Kubera, and Kaikesi had three sons, Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Vibhishana and had two daughters, Vibhashini and Surpankha.

God of Wealth

So it is known from this that Kuber was the elder brother of Ravana. That’s why he was declared the king of Lanka. But this made Ravana very angry and he started worshipping Lord Shiva. Shiva was pleased and gave him the boon of power. Then Ravan attacked Lanka and remove Kuber from Lanka.

And after that Kuber starts worshipping Shiva and Lord Shiva declares him as the treasurer of heaven. When Ravana hears that he gets angry and attacks Kuber. Frightened Kuber goes back to Shivji, but Shivji says that both of the devotees are equal to him. so, I will not be able to help you in this and if you want help, then you should worship Durga Maa.

After that, Kuber worships Durga Maa on the banks of river Narmada and Durga Maa is pleased and gives him the boon of Abhayadan and after that, a temple is established.

So the place where Kuber did this meditation, the name of that place was Karnali and today the temple of Kuber Bhandari is situated at that place.
