Bhoodevi, one of Lord Vishnu’s consorts was once cursed by Sage Durvasha because she did not notice his arrival and offended the sage. Bhoodevi prayed to Perumal here in the Thamirabarani River. When she emerged from the river she had two fish-shaped earrings which she presented to Lord Vishnu. Varuna Dev also got rid of Jupiter’s curse at this place by praying to Perumal.
