About Kollur

Kollur, also known as Kolluru is a small town in the Udupi District of Karnataka. It is mainly famous for the Mookambika Devi Temple. Kollur is one of the Sapta Kshetra of Lord Parshuram. This temple is unique because all other temples established by Lord Parshuram are dedicated to Mahadev, but this one is dedicated to Mata Parvati. Kollur is located on the banks of the Souparnika and Agnitheetha rivers at the foot of the Western Ghats. Explore Places to Visit in Kollur

Devi in The Form of a Shivling

The Mookambika temple is unique because here the Shivling is the combined form of Shiva and Shakti together. Pleased with Rishi Kola’s penance Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a Shivling. But the Rishi requested the presence of Shakti also, so a gold line appeared in the center of the Shivling, representing Devi Mookambika. Later a Panchloha Murti of the Goddess was enshrined by Adi Shankaracharya.
