Thirupuliyangudi Perumal temple in Thirupuliyangudi is one of the Nava Tirupathi temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and also one of the 108 Divya Desams. One of the Navagrahas also, the deity here is Budh (Mercury). In this temple Lord Vishnu is in the form of Bhoomipalaka Perumal. He can be seen in a reclining posture with a lotus stem emerging from His Navel. At the end of the stem is a lotus with Lord Brahma seated on it. Sridevi and Bhoodevi are also enshrined alongside Lord Vishnu.
Lord Indra’s Penance
A Rishi and his wife were once playing in the Himalayas in the form of deers. Lord Indra was hunting and killed one of the deers, not knowing who they were. As such, Lord Indra had committed the sin of Brahm-Hatya. He was advised by Devguru Brihaspati to pray to Lord Vishnu. Lord Indra came here and did as told. Lord Vishnu relieved Him of the sin.
