History of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

The wonderful Dravidian-style architecture of the temple acquired 156 acres of land having 7 prakaras which meant the 7 chakras that run through over physical beings, 21 sculptured Gopurams, 81 shrines, 39 pavillians, 9 sacred pools and a golden vimana over the sanctorum of the deity.

It is the biggest functioning Hindu temple in India. Its 236 feet tall Rajgopuram is the tallest temple tower in India. It also has a 1000-pillar hall, a garuda mandap, The sesha mandap and intricate carvings everywhere.
