Ramanathaswamy Temple is located on Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu. This temple is regarded as the Rameshwaram temple. The temple has the longest corridors and the most famous Nayanars. Ramanathaswamy Temple is one of the twelve jyotirlingas.

Rameshwaram is an important holy religious site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas. Rama built and worshipped the Lingam of Ramanathaswamy (Shiva) before he crossed Ramsetu on the modern island of Sri Lanka, according to stories of mythology.

Dress Code to Be Followed at Rameshwaram Temple

To visit the Rameshwaram temple, devotees are required to follow specific dress codes. It is important to dress in accordance with temple guidelines.

Male devotees are recommended to wear a dhoti paired with a shirt, pyjama, or pants along with a shirt. For women and girls, the suggested attire includes saris, churidars, or ‘pavadai’ with a half-sari. But no jeans or T-shirts are allowed for both men and women inside the Rameshwaram Temple.

What are the procedures to be followed in the Rameshwaram temple?

First, take three dips in the holy water. Offer the coconut in the water. After completing the puja, offer the bananas to the cows or goats moving there. Then move towards the mandir in wet clothes. There, you have to take a bath in 22 kunds (wells).

You won’t be allowed to enter the main temple in a wet dress. So it would be better if you carried an additional dress to change after “Theertha Snana”. There will be separate places for dress changes.

It was believed that Lord Ram’s quiver included 22 arrows. You can take blessings of water from these 22 wells located in the corridor of Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple devotees who think that doing this will eliminate their negatives.

Spatika is a Sanskrit word that means ‘gemstone‘. Shivlinga is made of gemstones. You can get darshan of Spatika Lingam only during the early morning from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. You have to get in line as early as 4 a.m.

You should plan to visit the Rameshwaram temple in the winter and monsoon. Avoid visiting the temple in the summer, as it’s too hot there. So, the best time to visit the Rameshwaram temple is from October to April. Also, avoid festive days, as they are too crowded.

Southern temples have a dress code. Ladies are supposed to wear saree, though chudidhars are allowed. No shorts to be worn by men, wherein many north Indian people enter the temple in shorts. Though people wnt comment right on the face, yet they will shun and move away. The dress code is men not to wear shirt and a towel to be tied to the waist. Dressing appropriate is adviced, be it any temple.
