About Edaganathar Temple
Edaganathar Temple in Thiruvedagam near Madurai is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This five-acre temple complex is located on the banks of the Vaigai River. Here Lord Shiva is known as Edaganathar and Mata Parvati is known as Visalakshi. Besides this main temple, there are a number of smaller shrines within the complex. There are two Gopurams facing each shrine. This temple has been mentioned by 7th century CE Tamil Tevaram written by the Nayanars.
Lord Shiva was worshipped by Garuda, Adiseshan, and Lord Vishnu
It is said that Lord Shiva appeared as a Swayambhu Murti known as Edaganathar and was worshipped by Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s mount. Sheshnag and Lord Vishnu Himself.
