Melkote Temple History

The popular Vaishnavaite shrine was built under the patronage of Mysore Wodeyars. Saint Sri Ramanujacharya visited the place and settled here for 12 years, bringing more importance.

About Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple

The temple is also “Dakshina Badri”, one’s Badri Yatra would be incomplete without visiting this temple. It is one of the iconic temples in Melkote with rich natural beauty, attracting thousands of pilgrims daily.

Cheluva Narayan is worshipped here. It is believed that Lord Krishna, Balarama and other Gods have worshipped the deity. Hence it is also known as ‘Ramapriya’, ‘Thamar Uganda Thirumeni’ and ‘Chella Pillai’.

Here Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Cheluvaranarayana Swamy. In Kritayuga Sri Cheluvanarayana is worshipped as Vedadri, in Treta yuga, it is worshipped by Sri Krishna and Balarama which is known as Yadavadri. While in Kalyuga it is worshipped by Sri Ramanujacharya.
