This ancient temple complex has at least 50 different shrines believed to have been built in the late 11th century CE. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Harihara (The combined form of Lord Shiva and Vishnu) in this temple. It is considered to be the oldest temple in Bhubaneswar.

The temple is a protected monument and is under the joint care of the temple trust and the Archeological Survey of India. Lingaraj Temple is one of the rare temples where active worship has been going on through the centuries. This temple complex is considered one of the finest examples of purely Hindu temples in India.

Lingaraj Temple Timings

The temple opens from 05:00 AM to 12:30 PM and  03:30 PM to  09:00 PM.

The temple closes at 09:00 PM.

Darshan Booking

There is no provision for advance darshan booking in this temple. About six thousand devotees visit this temple on average. Darshan would take about one to two hours on a normal day. There will be larger crowds during festivals like Shivratri when darshan will take a longer time.

Festivals in Lingaraj Temple

Festivals like Shivratri are celebrated with great enthusiasm and thousands of devotees visit this temple during Phalguna month. The night view of the temple is beautiful during the Shivratri. Other festivals like Candan Yatra(a 22-day festival), and Rath Yatra of Lingaraj on Ashokaashtami are celebrated in the temple.
