Kartik Purnima Significance
Radha-Krishna
In Vaishnavism tradition, this day is considered necessary and special for the worship of Radha and Krishna. Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha have performed Raslila with their Gopis at Jagannath Temple, Puri, and all other Radha Krishna temples, sacred vow is observed throughout the Karthik month, and performances of Rasllila are organized on the day of Kartik Purnima. It is believed that on this day Krishna worshipped Radha.
Tulsi and Vishnu
Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Matsya, God Vishnu’s fish incarnation, and Vrinda the personification of Tulsi.
Kartikeya
In southern India, Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as the birthday of Lord Kartik who is the son of Shiva and known as the god of war. Also, everyone believes that this is dedicated to Pitrs which means ( dead ancestors).
Guru-Nanak
In Sikkim, this day means Kartik Purnima and is celebrated as the birthday of their famous god Guru-Nanak. This day in Sikkim is called as Guru-Nanak Jayanti or Guru Purab.

Why Kartik Purnima is Important?
It is the eighth month in the Hindu calendar which is actually between October and November in the Gregorian calendar. This month is considered the holy month and also it is believed that it is the month of awakening the soul with meditation and celebrations.
Rituals During Kartik Purnima
It is believed that all the devotees must bathe in the Ganges or any other holy river on this day.
People celebrate this as Diwali like they light diyas/ earthen Lamps for celebrating the victory of Lord Vishnu.
Devotees walk in a procession and carry Lord Shiva’s idols and images. They then dip them into the water once they worship them.
Annakutta Prasad is offered to all the deities at the temple.
At sunrise or moonrise, some devotees gather around the banks of holy rivers and worship Lord Shiva.
Devotees then participate in the ‘Bhandara and ‘Anna Daan rituals. This is done for gaining assets and prosperity throughout the coming year.
