The Sadhu who changed the face of Hindu dharma- “Pramukh Swami Maharaj”
On the occasion of Swami Bapa’s birth anniversary, Sanstha has organized Pramukh Swami Shatabdi Mahotsav.
Swami Bapa’s childhood
Pramukh Swami Maharaj was a great personality who lived his whole life for others and was immersed in the eternal devotion of God.
He was born on 7 December 1921 in a farmer’s family in Chansad village near Vadodara. His childhood name was Shantilal. Swami Maharaj’s behavior is also similar to his name. Shantilal’s mother described him as a calm and soft-spoken child.
His guru, Shastri Maharaj
On November 7, a letter was received which was from Shastri Maharaj.
Shastriji Maharaj asked him to join Swami. Swami Bapa immediately left the house with the permission and blessings of his parents, and Pramukh Swami Maharaj dedicated his whole life to others. On 21 May 1950 at Ambli-Vali Pol in Ahmedabad, Shastriji Maharaj appointed Shastri Narayan Swarup Das, then merely 28 years of age, as the administrative president (“Pramukh”) of BAPS, after that Shastri Narayan Swarup Das was widely known as “Pramukh Swami”.
Before he died in 1971, Yogiji Maharaj had explained to Swami and devotees, “From now on, Pramukh Swami Maharaj will carry on my work… Pramukh Swami is my everything”.
President and Guru of BAPS
Under Pramukh Swami’s leadership, BAPS rapidly grew into a global Hindu organization and saw significant expansion in many measurable parameters. As of 2019, BAPS includes over one million devotees, more than 900 masters, 3,300 temples and congregations, more than 7,200 weekly assemblies, and a host of humanitarian and charitable activities. He was regarded by the devotees as a “perfect servant of the Lord, … wholly filled with the Lord and therefore worthy of reverence and worship”.

When countless devotees from all over the world will pay homage to Guruhari Brahmaswaroop Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
Millions of people will come to the Shatabdi Mahotsav
On this auspicious occasion, Swaminarayan Nagar will be formed. There will be many wonderful attractions like magnificent artistic gates, temples, various scenic spots for devotees, exhibitions, etc. Massive programs will be held every evening in the auditorium of the centenary celebrations. Thousands and millions of volunteers will come from far.
