Taratarini Shakti Temple is located near Brahmapur in Odisha. Taratarini Shakti Peeth is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of India and one of the four Adi Shakti Peeths. This ancient temple is situated on the top of a hill on the banks of the Rushikulya River, which is known as the elder sister of Maa Ganga.
It is believed the five Pandavas have prayed for victory in this temple, as advised by Shri Krishna.
Taratarini Temple History (Story)
The Taratarini temple was in existence more than 2500 years ago, in the days of the Kalinga kings. In those days, Sampa, the capital of the Kalinga kings, was just a short distance from here.
Taratarini Temple was the family deity of the kings. Over the centuries, it was lost to memory. The temples of Murtis were rediscovered in the 17th century CE and worship was revived.
Taratarini is a major centre for both Buddhist and Hindu Tantrik sects. The temple can be reached by climbing about 1000 steps or taking the ropeway.

Chaitra Yatra in Tara Tarini Temple
Chaitra Yatra is held every Tuesday of Chaitra Month every year in Tara Tarini Temple Behrampur. It is a month-long weekly festival. Thousands of devotees visit the 17th-century shrine during yatra to seek blessings from the presiding deity.

- According to the advice given by the collector, ailing and elderly persons do not visit the shrine
